Speed believed to be factor in fatal Pitt Meadows crash

A woman who crashed into a light standard at the foot of the Golden Ears Bridge Saturday died at the scene, according to authorities.

Mounties were called to the scene of a single-vehicle collision on Golden Ears Way near the Lougheed Highway overpass around 8:30 p.m., the Ridge Meadows RCMP said in a statement.

“A lone adult female occupant of the vehicle sustained significant injuries. Despite life saving efforts by the witness and emergency personnel, the woman died at the scene,” the statement said.

“Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision and investigation is ongoing.”

The road was closed for several hours and reopened after debris was cleared.
