Police searching for white car after overnight shooting in Surrey, B.C.

A targeted shooting in Surrey’s Newton area is not related to the rash of extortion related violence in the city, according to authorities.

Police in Surrey, B.C., are investigating an overnight shooting that targeted people inside a vehicle in the city’s Newton neighbourhood.

Officers were called to reports of shots fired near King George Boulevard and 81 Avenue at approximately 12:55 a.m. on Sunday, according to a statement from the Surrey Police Service.

Investigators arrived on scene to find that a business was damaged by bullets but no injuries had been reported.

“Investigation revealed the suspect shot at the victims, who were inside a vehicle out front of the business,” police said in the statement Monday. “The suspects and victims then fled the area in their vehicles.”

Authorities said the motive for the shooting is still under investigation, but there are “no established ties” to the multiple extortion-related shootings plaguing the city.

Forensic detectives and front-line officers gathered evidence from the scene on Sunday as investigators search for a suspect vehicle described as a white, newer model four-door sedan.
