Road closures for Vancouver Marathon in effect until mid-afternoon

Motorists are being advised to factor in the road closures in place throughout Vancouver Sunday, as thousands of runners pound the pavement for this year’s edition of the annual Vancouver Marathon.

Both the BMO marathon and half marathon kick off at Queen Elizabeth Park and run through Stanley Park, finishing up at West Pender Street.

According to the event’s website, race routes will impact traffic in Riley Park, South Cambie, Oakridge, Fairview, Kerrisdale, Dunbar, UBC, Point Grey, Kitsilano, West End, Coal Harbour, Chinatown, Yaletown, Cambie, False Creek and the downtown neighbourhoods.

Closures are in place until 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Translink has provided extra service to cater to the event, with bus detours in effect throughout the day and the SkyTrain and SeaBus providing additional and earlier routes Sunday morning.
