The 23-year-old man from Concord, Ont., is facing stunt driving charges after Ontario Provincial Police say officers stopped a rental car travelling more than double the posted speed limit on Highway 17 near Chapleau. “Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle travelling at 185 km/h in a posted 90 km/h speed zone,” OPP said in a new release. According to police, the traffic stop occurred at about 11:25 a.m. on June 23. Charges and immediate penalties As a result of the investigation, the driver was charged with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act. Beyond the charge, the man received an automatic 30-day driver’s licence suspension and the rental vehicle was also impounded for 14 days. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Wawa on Aug. 6.
