Community rallies around street dancer

A Sherwood Park man who began dancing on street corners as therapy following a head injury has racked up more than $850 in fines. Mounties say “public safety” is their concern, while some community members have expressed their support.

Flooding wreaks havoc

Hundreds of Edmontonians called Epcor with problems due to rain and flooding over the weekend. The city’s weather station in Blatchford recorded more than 100 millimetres, putting the city on track to break a June precipitation record. Epcor asked residents to hold off on running dishwashers and laundry machines until the wastewater system wasn’t so taxed, as did other communities in the capital region. In Tofield, flooding forced two businesses to close and administration to cancel Canada Day celebrations. CTV Edmonton’s chief meteorologist, Josh Classen, is forecasting another 20-40 millimetres of rain this weekend.

Serial offender charged

A Grande Prairie, Alta., man is accused of sexual offences against minors in Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan. Joseph Kid, 32, faces charges of sexual assault, sexual interference, forcible confinement, and assault while choking, among others.

Infill violation spurs concern

Grovenor residents say during a recent emergency, paramedics could not get a stretcher to the door of a basement unit of an infill development because of a window well that violates municipal building code. The city says it is investigating the building’s compliance.
