‘Prolific offender’ arrested in Fraser Valley after backing into cruiser, driving away: police

Police say a 37-year-old man who fled from officers in the Fraser Valley last week has been arrested.

According to the Abbotsford Police Department, officers pulled the man over in Aldergrove on May 25 after noticing his use of stolen license plates.

The alleged “prolific offender” then backed into the police vehicle, damaging it, before driving away, the department said in a social media post Monday.

“No pursuit was initiated. The police vehicle sustained minor damage,” according to police.

The man was arrested Monday at his home near the corner of 273 Street and 32 Avenue with help from police dogs and an air unit, authorities said.

Police said the man was known to law enforcement and stressed the importance of dealing with those who “pose a threat to public safety.”

“The man’s actions—ramming a police vehicle and fleeing—placed officers and the public at risk,” police added.

Abbotsford police say they’re recommending multiple charges, including assaulting a peace officer, flight from police, and possession of stolen property.
