Police on Vancouver Island say a stunting pickup truck driver was carrying hundreds of grams of drugs in the vehicle when he crashed into a telephone pole. West Shore RCMP officers responded to the crash Wednesday night near the intersection of the Island Highway and Wale Road in Colwood, west of Victoria. According to a police news release, a witness reported seeing the driver burning out the truck’s tires in a stunting maneuver before the crash. Officers arrived at about 8:45 p.m. and found the 53-year-old driver had a suspended licence, police said. A search of the vehicle turned up 240 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 98 grams of suspected cocaine, according to police. Drug paraphernalia was also seized. Police said the driver was sober at the time of the crash. Investigators said the man was charged with several motor vehicle infractions, including driving without due care and attention, having tinted windows and stunting. The pickup truck was towed from the scene and impounded while the drug trafficking investigation remains ongoing.
