A 27-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in the St. Vital neighbourhood. According to police, officers were called to a reported stabbing in an apartment building in the 600 block of Dakota Street at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Police allege a man armed with a knife refused to leave a family suite and tried to stab a woman in her 40s. The woman, who police said was related to the suspect, was able to defend herself with a laundry basket and was not injured as the suspect left the suite. The suspect was then locked out of the building and tried to get back in. Police say he confronted a teenager not known to him outside the building and robbed him of his property. The suspect was then confronted by another one of his relatives, a man in his 50s. Police said the man was stabbed, seriously injured and taken to hospital in unstable condition. He was later upgraded to stable. The suspect ran from the area but was arrested on Arden Avenue by police a short time later. A 27-year-old man from Coral Harbour, Nunavut is charged with two counts of attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon. He was detained in custody and none of the charges have been proven in court.
