Brazen daylight shooting leaves one man dead in Abbotsford neighbourhood

Police have descended on an Abbotsford neighbourhood after a deadly shooting in broad daylight.

A man is dead after a brazen daylight shooting in Abbotsford Friday afternoon.

First responders rushed to the 3200 block of Siskin Drive after shots rang out around 12:30 p.m., and found a man inside a home suffering from gunshot wounds.

Despite urgent efforts to save him, the victim died at the scene.

“This incident, I want to stress, is not extortion-related, but related to the B.C. gang conflict,” said Sgt. Paul Walker of the Abbotsford Police Department. “The individual in the home is well-known to police and is connected to that B.C. gang conflict.”

The killing took place in a residential neighbourhood. One witness told CTV News he heard screaming and crying after the man was shot.

“This level of violence today in any neighbourhood is unacceptable. It can be extremely dangerous… schools close by in the area, places of worship, people walking down the sidewalk. That is a risk. That is a concern. That is something that we never want to see,” said Walker, adding that investigators are doing everything they can to solve the case.

Walker said there is no ongoing risk to the public.

On Friday afternoon, officers were canvassing the neighbourhood, looking for evidence and witnesses.
