Police say five people have been taken into custody in just two days for illegal border crossings in Abbotsford. Police say around 10 p.m. Wednesday, a family of three was intercepted near Zero Avenue and Mt. Lehman Road. The next day, around 1 a.m., a man was spotted near Zero Avenue and Hamm Road. That same evening, one person was apprehended near Boundary Road after crossing into Canada. “All three incidents were immigration related. One individual was arrested on an outstanding B.C. warrant, while the remaining four were transferred into the custody of the Canada Border Services Agency,” Sgt. Paul Walker of the Abbotsford Police Department said in an email to CTV News Vancouver. Police said they were alerted to the crossings by the RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement Team. “AbbyPD regularly supports our federal partners in these operations. In two of the recent arrests, assistance was provided by the Lower Mainland Police Dog Service,” the email said. So far this year, Abbotsford police have responded to 20 land crossing incidents involving illegal entry in Canada. In total, the department says it has dealt with approximately 60 border-related incidents this year, some of which included drug enforcement.
