North Vancouver golfer plans to use $500K lottery winnings to buy a putter

A North Vancouver man is half-a-million dollars richer after winning a split Maxmillions prize with another player in Ontario.

Ronald P. was sitting at his desk at home when he found out about his big win from the Feb. 24 Lotto Max draw, according to a B.C. Lottery Corporation media release issued last week.

“At first, I looked at the numbers and thought, ‘No I didn’t win anything,’” Ronald told the BCLC. “Then I looked at the next set, as I saw there was a winner in North Vancouver.”

After checking his numbers manually, he confirmed with the BCLC that he had won a cool $500,000. Ronald first shared the news with his wife.

“I told her to come inside and asked her to read the numbers and she checked them off. She then said, ‘What does that mean?’ and I replied with ‘We won half a million dollars!’” he said.

As an avid golfer, the lottery winner said he plans on buying one item with his jackpot—a putter—and will invest the rest.

“He also shared that this windfall would improve how he lives his life and also improve his putting,” the news release reads.

The lucky ticket was bought at Thrifty Foods on Edgemont Boulevard in North Vancouver.

The odds of winning a Maxmillions prize, requiring seven matched numbers, are roughly one in 33.3 million.
