Murder charge laid more than 6 months after missing woman’s remains found in Maple Ridge, B.C.

Six months after a missing woman’s remains were found in a Maple Ridge home, a man she was reportedly in a relationship with has been charged with murder.

The man charged with indignity to human remains in the case of missing Maple Ridge woman Jessica Cunningham has now been charged with murder.

Mylie Andre Barron was charged with second-degree murder on Tuesday, according to the B.C. Prosecution Service.

Barron was charged with indignity to remains last year, after police spent multiple days investigating a home in the 22800 block of Gillis Place—a small, residential cul-de-sac off Harrison Street in Maple Ridge.

The charge was laid Aug. 28, 2025, and police said at the time that their investigation was related to Cunningham’s missing person file.

Remains found at the home were confirmed to belong to Cunningham in September 2025.

At the time, investigators said Cunningham was last seen in June 2025 and was reported missing in July.

Ridge Meadows RCMP had been “actively working to locate her,” for more than a month when they issued a public appeal for information on her whereabouts on Aug. 22, 2025.

Online court records indicate the date the murder allegedly occurred as June 4, 2025. The same police file number is associated with both the indignity charge and the murder charge.

The court proceedings are marked as a “K” file, a designation used to indicate allegations of intimate partner violence.

Police have previously said they believe Cunnigham and Barron were in an intimate relationship. Cunningham resided in the home where her remains were found.
