A rainfall warning has been issued for much of Metro Vancouver and part of Vancouver Island. According to Environment Canada, the northern sections of Metro Vancouver, including West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge, a section of the Sea to Sky highway and Howe Sound can expect up to 70 millimetres of rainfall on Saturday. Drizzle will intensify to periods of heavy rain, with the rain picking up around midday, before easing early Sunday morning, the weather agency said. The western region of Vancouver Island, particularly north of Tofino, can expect up to 100 millimetres of rainfall. The downpour will taper off come Saturday evening. The weather agency is advising drivers to take their time on the roads and be cautious of water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas. Visibility may be reduced.
