Two masked men attempted to rob a store at a Metro Vancouver mall Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities. Police were called to a shopping centre on Lougheed Highway near 227 Street around 5 p.m. for reports of a “robbery in progress,” the Maple Ridge RCMP said in a statement. “Frontline officers immediately attended the area and learned that two masked male suspects had entered the shopping centre before attempting to rob the business,” the statement from Mounties said. “The males were interrupted by security before deploying bear spray and leaving the area.” BC Emergency Health Services also responded and assisted those impacted by the bear spray—including some bystanders. Officers have reviewed mall surveillance video and interviewed witnesses but no suspect has been identified or arrested. Anyone with information is urged to call 604-463-6251 and quote file number 2026-6573.
