Man charged with woman’s murder in Abbotsford hotel

A suspect has been charged with murder after a homicide at a hotel in Abbotsford, B.C., investigators announced Friday.

In a statement Thursday, the Abbotsford Police Department said officers responded to a report of a “suspicious circumstance” at the hotel on Marshall Road around 11:45 a.m.

Few details have been revealed about what transpired, other than that police arrested a man at the scene after confirming “the incident was contained to a room within the hotel” and “confirming the incident as a homicide.”

Sondeep Singh Gill, a 26-year-old Abbotsford resident, now faces charges of second-degree murder and indignity to human remains.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team also identified the victim as a 30-year-old woman who also lived in Abbotsford.

“The details about the relationship between the woman and Mr. Gill are subject to the ongoing investigation,” IHIT wrote in a news release Friday.

Police said the killing was not related to extortion.

“The quick response and strong investigational work from AbbyPD officers and the investigative team at IHIT was instrumental in getting the investigation to this stage,” IHIT spokesperson Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi said, in the release. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends and loved ones of the woman during this difficult time.”

Investigators said they would not release any additional details while the case is before the court.
