Man charged with murder in Kamloops woman’s 2023 shooting death

Two years after a woman died from a gunshot wound in Kamloops, a man has been charged with second-degree murder.

On May 21, 2023, first responders were called to a home of the 800-block of Valhalla Drive for reports of a shooting, Kamloops RCMP said Wednesday, in a statement providing an update on the case.

The victim, Chaneill Satow, was transported to hospital, where she died from her injuries days later.

Austin Alexander Neil Eyres was charged with second-degree murder Wednesday, the RCMP said, adding that he was already in custody on an “unrelated matter.”

“This investigation was a priority for the Kamloops Serious Crime Unit, who worked diligently to advance the case for the past two years and present it to Crown counsel for charge assessment,” wrote Supt. Jeff Pelley, officer in charge for the Kamloops detachment.

“This charge is the culmination of a thorough investigation and the resources that were allocated to it.”

Police have not said what relationship the accused had with the victim. However, in a statement issued in 2023 authorities described the shooting as an “isolated incident” between parties “known to each other.”
