Kensington off-ramp reopens on Highway 1 in Burnaby

After two months of repairs, the Kensington off-ramp on Highway 1 through Burnaby reopened Tuesday night.

The westbound exit will however continue to close at nightly, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., until the end of October, according to the province.

The off-ramp along the busy route was closed in July for “crucial” safety improvements, as the Kensington Avenue Interchange had become bumpy for drivers, the Ministry of Transportation said.

“The full closure and night work was necessary to allow crews to safely complete the repairs, including final asphalt pavement, line painting and barrier reinstatement,” the ministry wrote in an earlier statement.

The repairs were initially scheduled to be completed by the end of August, but the province later pushed the deadline to Sept. 9.
