The life of Canadian punk icon Bif Naked is being laid bare in a new documentary, which the platinum-selling artist promises will include a few surprises. Director Pollyana Hardwicke-Brown’s feature, BIF NAKED, offers a raw portrait of the famously unfiltered rocker’s highs and lows, from topping the charts to struggling with addiction. Speaking ahead of the documentary’s Vancouver premier, Naked acknowledged much of her story has been covered in various mediums—“I’m a bigmouth, everybody knows everything,” she joked—but said the film delves into some lesser-known aspects of her life as well, including her legal battles against stalkers. “I’ve had dozens of stalkers over the years,” she told CTV Your Morning Vancouver on Monday. “I’ve been in court many times.” The documentary will also cover her fight against breast cancer, and the breakdowns of her first two marriages. “What can I tell you, I’m an optimist and a hopeless romantic,” said Naked, who has been married to bandmate Steve Allen since 2016. The documentary’s local premier is happening Tuesday at The Rio Theatre, something Naked called an “amazing” and “humbling” experience in the city she called home for decades before moving to Toronto. “To be there and to see all my friends—it’s emotional, it’s touching,” she said. Naked will also be giving an acoustic performance at the screening, and answering questions from the audience. She’s hopeful viewers of all stripes will find things to connect with. “I’ve always maintained everyone has a story that’s equally as riveting—everyone’s been through battles, everyone has family dynamics that are insane,” Naked said. “You know, it’s all laid out there.”
