Homicide team investigating after man gunned down in Langley, B.C.

Police found a man with fatal wounds at an apartment building—marking the second shooting in as many weeks at the complex.

Homicide investigators have been deployed to Langley, B.C., after police were called to reports of gunfire Tuesday night and found one person with fatal injuries.

The Langley RCMP says officers responded to a complaint of shots fired in the 5400 block of Brydon Crescent shortly after 11:30 p.m.

First responders, including paramedics and firefighters, found the victim in medical distress. “Despite life-saving efforts, the individual succumbed to their injuries at the scene,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP in a statement.

The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called to probe the killing.

In a statement Wednesday, the homicide team identified the victim as a man in his 40s.

“Investigators believe this was a targeted incident limited to a single unit at a multi-dwelling residential complex,” the agency said.

It said the man’s name is not being released as family notifications are ongoing.

2nd shooting on same block

The deadly shooting was the second instance of gunfire in the same block of Brydon Crescent in as many weeks.

On May 16, a 27-year-old man was hospitalized after what the Langley RCMP described as a targeted daylight shooting in the area.

Police have not said whether the two incidents are connected.

Officers are canvassing the neighbourhood and speaking with witnesses as they work to determine what led to the latest shooting.

“Investigators are expected to be in the area for some time as a fulsome scene examination is underway,” IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Freda Fong said in a statement.
