Homicide investigators called to Maple Ridge home

IHIT has been dispatched to a Maple Ridge home, where RCMP initially attended to gather information on a missing person case.

Homicide investigators and an RCMP forensics team descended on a cul-de-sac in Maple Ridge Wednesday.

Images from the scene on Gillis Place – a residential dead-end off of Harrison Street between Lougheed Highway and the Haney Bypass – show officers from both the Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team and Integrated Forensic Identification Services working at a home.

A white tent can be seen on the lawn of the residence, while tarps block the view of the home’s front porch.

In a statement late Wednesday afternoon, Ridge Meadows RCMP described the police presence on Gillis Place as part of “an ongoing missing person investigation.”

Officers from the detachment were at the scene on Tuesday, according to the statement, which does not specify whether anyone has been confirmed dead in the case.

“As criminality has been suspected, the area surrounding the scene will be cordoned off for a significant amount of time,” the statement reads.

“The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called and will be working in partnership with Ridge Meadows RCMP.”

The detachment said it would be providing “no further information,” referring questions and future updates to IHIT.
