Foul play suspected in Merritt woman’s death, RCMP say

A woman’s death in Merritt over the weekend is being described as suspicious by the RCMP, who are appealing for information amid a major crimes investigation.

Officers were called to the 2000 block of Nicola Avenue on Saturday to assist paramedics with a “woman in medical distress,” Mounties said in a statement Monday.

“The woman, a Merritt resident in her 20s, passed away at the scene from injuries sustained. Foul play is suspected,” the RCMP’s statement said.

No further details were provided.

The Southeast District Major Crime Unit has taken over the case, and is urging anyone with information who has not spoken to police to call 1-877-987-8477.
