Mounties in Anmore, B.C., say a local man has been charged with fraud and theft after a “detailed” investigation that began last year. Ryan Kohler was charged last month with fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and theft under $5,000, Coquitlam RCMP said in a news release Friday. The charges were laid on Aug. 10, according to police, who said they began investigating after receiving a report last year. The offences are alleged to have occurred from October 2024 to May 2025, police said. “The accused was formerly involved with an Anmore school parent advisory council,” the release reads. Mounties did not name the school or explain Kohler’s involvement with the PAC, but a statement posted on the Anmore Elementary School PAC website last weekend identifies him as the organization’s former treasurer. The statement indicates that “alleged criminal activities” involving PAC funds were discovered in November 2025. “Since the discovery of the transgressions, in the PAC’s estimation, it is alleged that in excess of $20,000 was taken from the PAC accounts,” the statement reads. It is signed by the council’s current and former chairs, as well as the current treasurer. “The culmination of the detailed Coquitlam RCMP investigation into alleged criminal actions resulted in these charges being laid,” said Cpl. John Graham, in the RCMP release. “We understand allegations of this nature are concerning, but we have confidence in the judicial process that is now underway.” Mounties said Kohler has been “released on protective conditions” while the case is before the courts. They did not specify the nature of those conditions. Online court records indicate Kohler’s next appearance is scheduled for Sept. 23 in Port Coquitlam provincial court.
