Fire underneath Metro Vancouver bridge destroys boathouse

If you live in Vancouver you may have spotted the smoke from far away or perhaps even drove through it.

Nobody was injured during a fire underneath the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge in North Vancouver that sent a large plume of grey smoke into the sky Monday afternoon, according to firefighters.

The blaze at Lynnwood Marina was visible from surrounding areas and those crossing the bridge around 6:30 p.m. had to drive through the smoke.

Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, Vancouver Fire Rescue and the District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue responded.

Deputy Fire Chief Chris Byrom with the District of North Vancouver told CTV News a floating boathouse with a vessel inside was fully engulfed and destroyed. Two empty boathouses also caught fire.

A quick response from crews brought the fire under control. The cause remains under investigation.
