Driver found slumped over leads to drug seizure in North Vancouver, RCMP say

Mounties in North Vancouver say they seized drugs and weapons after stopping a vehicle where the driver was found slumped over in the driver’s seat, with drug paraphernalia in plain sight.

In a news release Tuesday, North Vancouver RCMP said officers conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of West 2nd Street at approximately 6 a.m. on Friday.

The driver and a passenger were both arrested for offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Officials say both suspects are from Kamloops, and are known to police. They have since been released pending the outcome of the investigation.

A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of numerous weapons and “significant quantities” of illicit drugs.

The items seized include the following:

• 10 grams of psilocybin;
• 347 grams of methamphetamine;
• A replica firearm;
• Multiple knives and a baton;
• A body armour carrier

“Illicit drugs and violence associated with this type of activity are a direct threat to the safety of the citizens of North Vancouver,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak in the release. “We are committed to providing safe streets and communities for all through intelligence-led policing. The production and trafficking of drugs is not a victimless crime. We see its devastating effects daily. The number of potential lives saved as a result of this seizure is immeasurable.”
