Dog rescued after falling through thin ice in Whistler, B.C.

Firefighters rescued a dog after it fell through thin ice on Alta Lake in Whistler, B.C., on Saturday.

In a social media post, the local firefighters’ union said the dog’s owners did the right thing by immediately calling 911 instead of heading out on to the ice themselves. The crew reached the animal in need quickly, and brought the “chilly little adventurer” back to dry land.

The dog was left a bit cold and shaken but is doing well, firefighters said.

“A huge shout-out to the owners for doing everything right, and a reminder to everyone: thin ice is no joke. Keep pets on leash near frozen water and always call us if something goes wrong – we’ve got the training and gear to handle it safely,” the post reads.

“Another great save for the team – and the best kind of call: one with a happy reunion.”
