Suspect in Surrey, B.C., sex assault identified, police say

Update: The Surrey Police Service said the suspect sought in connection with an Aug. 26 sexual assault has been identified.

Police in Surrey, B.C., are appealing for information after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted early Tuesday morning.

The incident unfolded at around 3:10 a.m. when the woman was approached by a man while walking towards a bus stop in the 9800 block of King George Boulevard, the Surrey Police Service said in a statement Wednesday.

The man had asked to use her phone, before pushing her into a bush and allegedly sexually assaulting her when she refused.

The woman fought off the man and he fled northbound, police said. She suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.

Police describe the suspect as a “tall and skinny south Asian male” with black hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt, maroon shorts, and black-and-white shoes, police said.

The Surrey Police Service’s Special Investigation Section has taken over the investigation.
