Cruisers damaged, suspect tasered during Chilliwack police chase: RCMP

Four police cruisers were damaged during a police chase in Chilliwack before a suspect was tasered and taken into custody early Saturday morning, according to authorities.

Patrol officers working downtown first spotted the “suspicious truck” around 3:30 a.m., a statement form the Chilliwack RCMP said.

“When an officer attempted a traffic stop, the truck fled at a high rate of speed. The officer did not pursue,” Mounties said, in the statement.

Soon after, the vehicle was spotted driving erratically through the city and police attempted to stop it, according to the statement.

“The truck eventually encountered a marked police vehicle, changed direction, and collided head-on with a second police cruiser. Despite the impact, the driver continued to flee, failing to stop at multiple controlled intersections,” the RCMP said.

The driver crashed into a parked car near Yale and Prest roads and was boxed in by police but attempted to flee again, ramming two more cruisers.

Ultimately, the suspect was tasered and arrested, sustaining “injuries consistent with broken glass” in the process, police said.

The driver remains in custody, while police investigate whether the vehicle was stolen.
