Crews searching Fraser River after man’s possible fall, B.C. RCMP say

A search effort is underway following a report that a man may have fallen into the Fraser River in Maple Ridge, B.C., Monday morning.

RCMP officers were called to River Road, near the Port Haney Wharf, around 10:30 a.m. after a man possibly fell into the water “and did not resurface,” the Maple Ridge detachment said in a news release.

When the officers couldn’t find anyone in distress, a wider rescue effort was launched involving an RCMP boat and helicopter, firefighters, paramedics and members of Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue.

“Investigators are also speaking with numerous individuals on scene to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident,” Maple Ridge RCMP said.

Authorities closed the road leading to Port Haney Wharf to make way for the search, and it’s unclear when it will reopen.

The RCMP asked that people avoid the area during their investigation.
