A traffic control driver’s work truck has been impounded after she was allegedly clocked travelling almost double the speed limit while driving through a construction zone on B.C.’s Highway 1. The 55-year-old woman was stopped by the BC Highway Patrol between Hope and Yale just after 1 p.m. Oct. 22, after their laser reader showed her driving 110 km/h in a 60 km/h construction zone, the BCHP said in a release issued Tuesday. “No drivers are exempt from slowing down in a construction zone—including other construction workers,” the release said. According to Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, the woman had told traffic officers she was travelling home from work at another construction zone. “It’s obviously disrespectful for a construction worker to speed through another construction zone, but the important point is that it’s dangerous,” McLaughlin said in the release. “Everyone needs to slow down to protect the people who build and maintain our highways. No one is immune from the law.” The Abbotsford woman was slapped with a $483 fine for excessive speeding. The costs of the truck’s towing and seven-day impoundment lies with the registered owner of the work truck, a road safety company in Surrey.
