Charges have been laid against a man accused of firing shots near a SkyTrain station and police office in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood Monday afternoon. Police allege a suspect fired a gun near Gateway Station around 3:15 p.m., before fleeing to the Surrey Police Service’s District 1 Community Police Office where he fired more shots. The suspect was arrested shortly after with involvement of police dogs and the heavily armed Emergency Response Team. He was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries. Meanwhile, the roads and sidewalks in the area of King George Boulevard and 107 Avenue were shut down for several hours while police collected evidence and an explosives team searched a bag the suspect left inside the police station, ultimately not finding anything suspicious. The incident was one of four shootings in Surrey Monday. Police have not confirmed a motive in this case. In an update Tuesday, the SPS said 34-year-old Jose Dingo Rodriquez Centeno has been charged with five offences. They include unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, assault of a police officer, and resisting or willfully obstructing a police officer. Centeno remains in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 10.
