B.C. soccer legend providing ‘guest voice’ for TransLink during FIFA World Cup

The Metro Vancouver transit system is getting a new voice in the form of a local soccer legend.

Soccer fans will hear a familiar voice coming through TransLink’s announcement system during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the company announced Wednesday.

B.C. soccer legend Christine Sinclair is providing a “guest voice” for the Metro Vancouver transit provider throughout the tournament, guiding people to BC Place for live matches or the FIFA Fan Festival for free public viewing areas.

TransLink said Sinclair will be heard on buses, SkyTrains, SeaBuses and the West Coast Express, while also appearing on video screens at stations and in social media clips.

In a statement, TransLInk CEO Kevin Quinn said transit will be a “key part” of the World Cup experience when it begins later this spring.

“We’re not just moving people to the action, we’re bringing the energy of the tournament onto the system,” Quinn said.

“Hearing Christine Sinclair’s voice along the way makes that experience feel uniquely local, and unmistakably Canadian.”

TransLink is also marking the World Cup with planned performances at SkyTrain and SeaBus stations, beginning with DJ Kookum at Waterfront Station on June 13 and ending with swing band Brass Tax at Bridgeport Station on July 7.
