All evening sailings on major BC Ferries routes cancelled due to windy weather

Multiple sailings between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island were cancelled Monday as winds of up to 90 km/h battered the South Coast.

With winds of up to 90 km/h in the forecast for the South Coast, multiple sailings between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island were cancelled Monday.

On the Tsawwassen-Duke Point route the 8:15 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. departures were called off “to ensure the safety of our customers and crew.”

On the Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay route, the 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. sailings in both directions were cancelled.

The 8:45 p.m. sailing from Nanaimo and the 10:50 p.m. sailing from West Vancouver were halted on the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay route.

Wind warnings are in effect for Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, the Sunshine Coast, and the southern Gulf Islands. Environment and Climate Change Canada predicts gusts between 70 km/h and 90 km/h in the evening and overnight, with the winds expected to subside by Tuesday morning.
