Vancouver police investigating alleged voyeurism at theatre

An employee of the Arts Club Theatre is being investigated on allegations he made “surreptitious” recordings in cast changerooms, police confirmed.

A former Arts Club Theatre Company employee is under investigation for alleged voyeurism at a Vancouver theatre over the summer, CTV News has learned.

The Vancouver Police Department confirmed it began investigating on Aug. 28 after receiving a report alleging that “a number of people had been surreptitiously recorded inside a private changing room used by cast members” at Stanley Theatre.

The 33-year-old man was arrested on Aug. 29 but has since been released and charges have not been laid, according to police.

“Protective conditions have been imposed that restrict the suspect from contacting the victims, or anyone known to be associated with Arts Club Theatre Company,” the department wrote in an emailed statement Monday.

Arts Club executive director Peter Cathie White said the employee is “not actively working” while the investigation is ongoing.

“The alleged actions, if true, are deeply troubling and run counter to everything that we stand for,” he wrote in a statement.

“Our priority is always the well-being, safety and privacy of our employees and freelance artists. Support services have been established for those affected, and resources are available to ensure that individuals receive the assistance they need.”

White said the organization would not comment further as the investigation by the VPD’s Sex Crimes Unit continues.
