2 men sentenced for firearms offences, 3 years after Coquitlam shooting

Two men have been sentenced for a 2022 shooting near Burquitlam SkyTrain Station, local Mounties announced Wednesday.

Twenty-year-old Mohammad Amin Heidari and 29-year-old Joshawa James Michael Hall each pleaded guilty to firearms-related charges in connection to the incident at Clarke Road and Hobbis Way on June 18, 2022.

Around 7:45 p.m. that night, Mounties responded to reports of shots fired. They arrived to find “several people suffering from gunshot wounds,” according to Coquitlam RCMP’s Wednesday news release.

At the time of the shooting, police said two people – a man and a woman – had been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. CTV News has reached out to Coquitlam RCMP to confirm whether there were more than the two victims police initially reported. This story will be updated if a response is received.

Investigators identified Heidari and Hall as the suspects in the shooting, who had fled the scene before police arrived.

They were arrested and charged, and Hedari pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and one count each of possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Hall pleaded guilty to one count of possession of ammunition.

Hedari was sentenced on May 6 of this year to 72 months in prison, while Hall received a 12-month sentence earlier this month, according to police.

Both men were given lifetime bans on possessing firearms and ammunition, and Hedari was also ordered to provide a DNA sample to the national databank.

“An extensive and highly detailed investigation was conducted by the Coquitlam RCMP Major Crime Section, culminating in successful guilty pleas,” said Insp. Aaron Lloyd, in the release.

“This outcome reflects our continued commitment to ensuring public safety and serving the communities we are proud to protect.”
