17 charges laid in B.C. wildlife trafficking case, officials say

A lengthy investigation into wildlife trafficking in B.C. has led to 17 charges against one person, according to officials.

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service posted a brief statement about the case online Friday, saying a three-and-a-half-year investigation resulted in Xiang Jun Wang being charged with nine counts of trafficking in wildlife and eight counts of unlawful possession of dead wildlife.

A second person, Stephan Grega, has been charged with one count of trafficking in wildlife.

“The BCCOS remains committed to investigating those who are involved in the trafficking of our wildlife resources,” said Insp. Kyle Ackles, in the statement.

“Discovering such trafficking offences is challenging and we rely on members of the public to report such activity.”

No additional information about the allegations was provided, such as what kind of wildlife was involved.

According to publicly available court records, Wang’s alleged contraventions of the province’s Wildlife Act occurred in Richmond between October of 2022 and February of 2025.

Wang is next set to appear in court on Nov. 18.

Grega’s alleged offence also occurred in Richmond in November of 2024, and he is next due in court on Dec. 16.
