Langley shooting victim was killed in taxi, homicide investigators say

Homicide investigators are still looking for answers after a man was shot and killed in a taxi in Langley, B.C., over the weekend.

One person is dead after a shooting inside a taxi in Langley Friday night.

The incident occurred near the intersection of 200 Street and 53 Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m., according to Langley RCMP.

“Frontline officers arrived promptly, located the victim and initiated lifesaving measures,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, in a news release Saturday morning.

“Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene.”

Police did not share any identifying details about the victim, such as their age or gender.

The investigation has since led to the 20200 block of 53A Avenue, police said.

The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case. In its own statement on Saturday, IHIT said the shooting “occurred while the victim was inside a taxi.”

“There is only one victim and no other reports of injuries,” IHIT said, adding that the investigation is in its early stages and the victim has not yet been identified.

“At this point, it is too early to provide additional details about the victim and motive,” IHIT said.

Investigators said they are looking to speak to anyone who was in the 20200 block of 53A Avenue between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., especially those who have dash cam video of the area.
