A 23-year-old man from Brampton is facing several charges after police allegedly seized $200,000 worth of drugs following a hit-and-run in Mississauga. The collision happened on Jan. 11 at the intersection of Hurontario Street and Elm Drive, just north of Central Parkway. Peel Regional Police said they were called to the area at about 11 p.m. for reports of a crash involving a black Hyundai Elantra and a black Range Rover Evoque. They say witnesses reported that the driver of the Range Rover ran away from the scene. “The Air Support Unit responded immediately and was able to track the suspect on foot in the area of the crash and observed him discarding bags of property while attempting to hide from responding officers,” police said in a news release. “With the assistance of the Canine Unit and Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), officers arrested the suspect following a brief foot pursuit.” Police say the discarded bags contained large quantities of drugs believed to be fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $200,000. They added that while the accused was in custody, a search warrant was executed at his home in Mississauga, where additional quantities of methamphetamine and currency were seized. Nitin Malik, 23, of Brampton, has been charged with failure to stop after accident, fail to comply with release order, possession for the purpose – schedule I cocaine, possession for the purpose – schedule I methamphetamines, and possession for the purpose – opioid.
