A 33-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder of a Montreal police officer on Wednesday in the Villeray—Saint-Michel—Parc-Extension borough. Police were called to a home on 14th Avenue near Émile-Journault Avenue for a wellness check. During the operation, an officer was stabbed with a sharp object, and a police gunshot injured a civilian. Court records show that the accused, Lorvens Joseph, is also charged with attempting to take the police officer’s weapon and assaulting him. According to the charge sheet, he also failed to comply with an order not to communicate or come within 100 metres of a woman. Quebec’s police watchdog (BEI) said in an email to CTV News that it is investigating the incident.
