Police arrest suspect after man found dead while responding to ‘weapons incident’ in Port Colborne

A police investigation on a residential street in Port Colborne has prompted police to warn residents to stay inside and lock their doors.

A 27-year-old suspect wanted in connection with a “weapons incident” that prompted a massive police response in Port Colborne, Ont., has been arrested.

On Wednesday morning, residents in Port Colborne were asked to stay inside and keep their doors locked while officers searched for a suspect following an incident east of the Welland Canal and south of Durham Street.

Uniformed officers and members of the Emergency Task Unit (ETU) attended an address on Fares Street north of Louis Street and when they entered the home, officers found a man dead, police said.

Shortly after, officers attended a second address on Mitchell Street between Nickel and Decew streets, where they believed the suspect fled.

Officers searched the home and did not find the suspect.

Police maintained a large presence in Port Colborne all day as they attempted to track down the suspect, who was identified as Brady Neff. Investigators described him as “armed and dangerous.”

Later, their investigation led them to the west side of a canal near Clarence Street, prompting nearby schools to be briefly under hold and secure.

In a news release on Wednesday afternoon, police announced that they had found Neff in the area of Killaly and Welland streets and took him into custody.

There is no immediate word on the charges. Police said the homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
