City of Hamilton program turns ‘parking tickets into toys’

Starting Monday, City of Hamilton parking tickets can be paid using toys instead of cash.

Toys for Tickets, running until Dec. 5, offers community members a way to pay for parking tickets with toys.

“Turn parking tickets into toys this holiday season,” reads a City of Hamilton press release. Toys for Tickets is a “simple but innovative way” to support the community, Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath said in the release.

The toys must worth equal or more value than the ticket, and in its original packaging with a receipt. Only city parking tickets are eligible for the program, the city said, adding that donations can be made at 80 Main St., from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Last year, the pilot program turned 65 parking tickets into $4,841 in toy donations,” according to City Manager Markie Clucklie.
