1 person in hospital following apartment fire in south Etobicoke

One person was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries following a fire in south Etobicoke on Sunday night, say paramedics.

The blaze broke out near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Summerhill Road, just east of Royal York Road.

Toronto police said they were called to that area just after 7 p.m. for reports of a fire inside an apartment.

At the scene, emergency responders encountered an active fire and doused it, police said.

A TTC bus was brought in to shelter residents who had been evacuated from the building. They have since been permitted to return to the building.

Police said Toronto paramedics transported a female to the hospital.
