Police release cheeky Super Bowl 'playbook' to discourage crimes

York Regional Police are warning those planning to watch Sunday's Super Bowl game to do so responsibly.

In a cheeky "playbook" released on Friday, police list a number of "penalties" for illegal "plays" such as drinking and driving and blasting the volume of a home-theatre system too high.

"There are penalties for those who cause big problems on the day of the big game," police said in the statement. "These plays are likely to result in more than a referee’s flag being thrown. York Regional Police urges you to enjoy Super Bowl Sunday responsibly and remember: #PartyWithCaution."

So what are some of the illegal "plays" that people should avoid? Below are a few taken from the "Super Bowl Sunday Losing Playbook":

"Beer Blitzed"

This refers to drinking and driving. Police warn that after "drinking a case of beer and hopping in the car to drive home, this play will end in making the call to a family member to tell them you have been arrested for impaired driving."

"Audible Audio"

Pop singer Katy Perry is scheduled to perform during the Super Bowl halftime show. For those who will be watching the star-studded show, police are warning them not to crank up their home-theatre system to 11 or neighbours may phone "police while you dance to 'California Gurls.'"

"Fail Mary"

Police say this "assault play" might happen if someone throws a "tight-spiralling beer bottle at a friend’s head for putting up a block at the beer fridge after you’ve had one too many." The cost for this offence may be a $5,000 fine or jail time, police say.
