Messy winter storm to hit southern Ontario: Environment Canada

Canadians hoping for a repeat of last year’s mild winter will be disappointed, says Environment Canada’s senior climatologist David Phillips, who predicts that this winter will feel longer and tougher.

A messy winter storm may hit southern Ontario starting Thursday and continuing into Friday, says Environment Canada.

According to a special weather statement issued early Wednesday, an area stretching from Windsor to Gatineau may be affected by the storm, which will bring wet snow flurries and possibly some freezing rain to the region Thursday.

Colder air in the wake of the storm will cause temperatures to drop below the freezing mark by Friday night, said Environment Canada.

Significant snow accumulations are not expected, however areas in the snow belts near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay might experience heavier snow and possible snow squalls Friday night.

Environment Canada is advising motorists to prepare for hazardous driving conditions.
