It’s no secret Toronto has one of the highest costs of living anywhere in the world and its residents have been known to have some unusual side hustles to scrape by.

Last month, a new report surfaced suggesting Torontonians now need to earn about $44 an hour, or more than $86,000 a year, to comfortably afford a one-bedroom apartment in the city.

And with Ontario’s minimum wage sitting at $17.60, nearly $10 below what workers need to stay afloat in the GTA, many residents are searching for ways to close the gap.

Some, like the Toronto man behind the walking-tour YouTube channel “Johnny Strides,” have turned niche content creation into a six-figure career.
