‘Dangerous situation’: Video shows plow blasting Toronto driver with snow from highway overpass

A driver in Toronto says his windshield was cracked after a plow dropped a massive pile of snow on his vehicle from an overhead bridge.

A man driving in Toronto Friday morning says he’s “a little bit shaken, but OK overall” after his car was hit by a deluge of snow from a plow that was clearing a bridge overhead.

Igor Murzaev was driving on a clear Highway 407 early Friday morning as he approached the Highway 50 overpass in Brampton.

Dashcam video shows snowplows were on the bridge as Murzaev approached. Then, a wall of snow created by the caravan of plows drops from above and smacks his vehicle head on.

“I saw that in a last moment but remained calm,” he told CTV News Toronto in an email. “There was no need to get off the highway and look for individual who created (this) dangerous situation because (the) camera records the incident.”

Murzaev said his windshield was broken from the impact.

Peel Region, which operates Highway 50, told CTV News Toronto in an email that it has addressed the issue with its snow-clearing contractor.

“This past weekend, we connected with our contracted service providers to ask them to review again with their staff, the specific training sections on bridge plowing procedures,” Julian Perez, manager of roads operation and maintenance, said in a statement.

Snow-clearing operations are ongoing after some parts of the city were hit by tens of centimetres of snow Thursday.
