A West Broadway business stepped up over the weekend to bring dozens of people and food together to celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving and community. “This is our fifth year that we’ve done our little Thanksgiving lunch,” said Lauren Siddall, operations director for Good Neighbour Brewing Company. “It is the best event every year. We always look forward to it. It is such a heartwarming day.” Siddall said the event is a two-pronged fundraiser. Money is raised to cover the ingredient cost for the lunch. Any additional funds raised were donated to the nearby Resource Assistance for Youth. She said the team at Good Neighbour was able to serve 157 Thanksgiving meals on Saturday and the brewery on Sherbrook Street hosted community members in their backyard. “West Broadway is such a fun, unique little pocket in Winnipeg, but there are definitely folks there who are struggling a little bit, and you know might not have received a hot meal this weekend otherwise,” Siddall said on Sunday. She said events like these are why Good Neighbour founders Amber Sarraillon and Morgan Wielgosz chose West Broadway as their original location. “They wanted to make sure that they were situated in a neighborhood, so we could be part of people’s everyday lives, and you know, a little more person-centric than car-centric, and part of that is giving back to the neighborhood,” Siddall said. “This is a lovely opportunity for us.” Siddall tells CTV News the event would not have been possible without the support of Hudson’s Bagels, The Handsome Daughter, and the nearby Foodfare on Westminster Ave. She said the brewery has tentative plans to host a holiday market on site in early December.
