Those enjoying an extra day off this weekend may want to pack an umbrella as Environment Canada is calling for a 60 per cent chance of showers with a risk of thunderstorm this afternoon. Toronto will see a high of 27 C before the mercury dips down to a low of 18 C by the evening.

Mother seeks help to bring daughter home from Gaza

A mother from southern Ontario is pleading with the Canadian government to help bring her 8-year-old daughter home from Gaza after the little girl visited the war-torn region with her father.

Wesam Abuzaiter says her daughter Salma travelled to Gaza with her father Hassan in June, shortly before the Israeli government launched a major military offensive in the region. She says Canadian officials have offered to transport Salma out of Gaza City to Jordan but have noted that the child would need to travel alone.

Teen charged in connection to stabbing near parade route

Toronto police have charged a 14-year-old boy with attempted murder in connection to a stabbing that took place near the Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival parade route late Saturday night.

Police say a male victim was found suffering from two stab wounds to the chest following an altercation near Lake Shore Boulevard and Dowling Avenue at around 7 p.m.

TRAFFIC

The westbound Gardiner will be closed from Carlaw Avenue to Humber River from Monday night at 11 p.m. until Tuesday at 5:30 a.m.

Canadian tennis stars Milos Raonic, Novak Djokovic and Eugenie Bouchard are taking part in the Rogers Cup tournament in Montreal and Toronto this week. Round one of the tournament begins today.

OVO Festival

Toronto's homegrown rapper Drake is back in the city for the much-anticipated OVO Festival. This year's confirmed performer include hip hop group Outkast.

Artfest at the Distillery

More than 75 artists and artisans will descend on the Distillery District for this three-day event that will showcase a range of Canadian made goods, including textile paintings, jewellery and pottery.

Simcoe Day at the Spadina Museum

In celebration of John Graves Simcoe, the first Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada, Spadina Museum presents their interactive tour titled “Meet the Austins.” This audio-visual tour takes visitors through the former Austin home to learn of the family’s history through the earliest days of Canadian history.
