Peel Regional Police say that more than half of the nearly two dozen guns seized in the bust of an alleged firearm trafficking network originated in the U.S., including one used in a deadly double shooting in Mississauga. Investigators revealed the results of Project Red Zone on Tuesday, a 10-month undercover operation which began in October 2025 after police received information that illegal firearms were being trafficked into and throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Police determined that 15 of those firearms came from south of the border, several of which are currently prohibited in Canada. Forensic analysis also linked 14 of the guns to shootings across the GTA. One of those incidents included a double shooting in Mississauga on March 21, 2024 that left 37-year-old Toronto resident Alastair Robinson dead. One other man was also injured. One of the guns used by a suspect in the murder was made in Texas, according to Insp. Mike Mavity. “It was approximately 4,000 days from time to purchase to time to crime. So it’d been purchased a long time ago, and it was linked through the casings and rounds that were fired at our homicide scene,” he said. The investigation was supported by the United States Department of Homeland Security and Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario. At least 950 rounds of ammunition and 824.75 grams of cocaine were also seized following the execution of search warrants in Mississauga, Ajax, and Scarborough. Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said that while only 15 weapons have been traced to the U.S., he believes most will “ultimately” lead back to the States. “These are not just illegal firearms; they are tools of violence. They are used to carry out extortions, home invasions, carjackings, gun and gang violence. So the fact that we are able to remove these 23 firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition will have an absolute impact on our local and GTA community’s safety.” Stephen Prakash Consala, a 24-year-old male from Scarborough, is facing a combined 34 charges, including 23 counts of firearms trafficking and nine counts of trafficking a controlled substance. Akshaya Srikanthan, 24, of Ajax, is facing 11 counts of firearms trafficking and seven counts of trafficking in a controlled substance for her alleged part in the operation. Sammy Shaik, a 28-year-old male from Mississauga and Janoj Dhayabaran, a 23-year-old male from Toronto are also facing charges.
