A man believed to have been stuck on a cliff at Scarborough Bluffs since Monday has been rescued. Toronto Fire Services (TFS) said crews were called to the Bluffs shortly after 8 a.m. for reports that a person was on top of the cliff that was 30 to 40 feet up. TFS Commander John Davidson of the Technical Operations unit told reporters that a passerby called 911 after hearing the person. “It took some time for the location of the person trapped on the bluffs,” Davidson said. After he was located, Davidson said crews decided to do a ladder rescue. Images from Chopper 24 show crews at the bottom of the Bluffs setting their rescue equipment. “So, a ladder was brought forward rather than a full rope system that we normally use on the bluffs. That person was successfully removed from the bluff and transported by our Toronto Marine Unit over to the Bluffers Marine Unit dock, where they were transferred over to our partners at Toronto Paramedic Services,” Davidson said. He shared that the man was later transported to the hospital suffering from dehydration after a “significant period of time exposed to the elements.” Davidson added that the man is believed to have been stuck for about 24 hours. However, he said the circumstances that led to the man being stuck on the cliff are currently unknown. “I do not know the exact timeline,” Davidson said. “He’s very fortunate that a passerby did hear him. He’s very fortunate in being discovered and rescued from the situation,” the commander added. Davidson reminded residents and visitors to stay away from the Bluffs. “They either come down from the top, or they feel venturous and feel that they can climb to the bluffs. All I can caution is to just avoid the area, use it from a safe distance. There are parameters in place down there with fencing that was recently put in place over the years,” Davidson said. “It is a dangerous area, although it is a very beautiful area, we just have to respect the elements and the hazards down there.”
