Work to repave 10 kilometres of Highway 63 through Fort McMurray began on Monday. Both directions of Highway 63 from Beacon Hill Drive to north of the Confederation Way interchange will be paved over the next two weeks, during which commuters are told to plan for alternating lane closures and a single alternating lane of traffic. Crews will work from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Alberta government pushed through funding for the project after a citizen protest in which Wood Buffalo residents filled 2100 potholes themselves. The province says it is also expediting contracts to repave parts of Highway 63 outside of Fort McMurray and near Wandering River.
